The heads of two Buddha statues blocking the main driveway to Splendid China. Splendid China was thought by many to be a vehivle for Communist propaganda. When the park opened in 1993, it was immediately met by protesters, including Tibetan Buddhist monks wearing traditional saffron robes and carrying signs denouncing China’s illegal occupation of their homeland. The protesters claimed they were against the inclusion of many of the exhibits, but many of the Potala Palace exhibit.
