The historic Green Gables, also known as the Wells House, in Melbourne. William T. Wells owned the Wells Rustless Iron Company. He purchased the Strobah property and built the Green Gables in 1886 with his wife Nora Stanford Wells as a winter home. Green Gables is an example of Queen Anne style architecture, and it is believed to be the first home in the area with indoor plumbing and an indoor bathroom.
The home is currently in danger of being sold to developers who would likely demolish it. Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village, Inc. has been working to save the home for the past few years and are looking for anyone looking to help. There is an open house next Saturday from 5p to 8p so you can view the house for yourself. Link to the event page is below.
